MEL 40506SA Advanced Diploma of Arts (Professional Writing)

Career Group Description

The course aims to provide training in the practices and techniques of professional writing. The course provides training in the styles, techniques and conventions appropriate to the variety of writing types; it assists students to develop knowledge of markets relevant to particular types of writing; it educates students in the preparation and submission of manuscripts for publication; and it provides them with knowledge of running small writing businesses. Many writers are self-employed or work under contract. Some may maintain employment outside of the writing industry to subsidise their income from writing. Business, government departments, small or regional newspapers and magazines, television and radio stations, film production companies and theatres may employ writers. Many writers seek publication of original manuscripts by publishers.

Accredited Training

Courses which are accredited meet the national standards as set down by the National Training Framework (NTF), the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and National quality assurance requirements such as the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF). The courses are recognised throughout Australia and once you have finished your studies, by completing the relevant core and elective subjects, your efforts are recognised by achieving a qualification and receiving a formal parchment. Assessment is often conducted in real or simulated work places which measure your ability to perform competently in job focused outcomes.
