Expected Employment Outcome Example

Community service workers are employed in many fields. Graduates may find themselves working in community development; community legal centres; women's or youth refuges; residential aged care services and community aged care services; and disability services including residential services, recreation programs, educational support services, advocacy, employment support services and respite services. There are also employment opportunities for graduates in social housing; out of home care settings; youth services; juvenile residential facilities; alcohol and drug services; advocacy services; mental health (non clinical) settings; and aged or disability respite services.

Note: Completion of a TAFE SA course does not guarantee an employment outcome. Formal requirements other than educational qualifications (eg licensing, professional registration), may apply to some occupations.

Application Selection

Award Courses - SATAC application process

  • Applications for Semester 1 2009 must be made through the centralised TAFE Admissions system via SATAC (South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre) by the advertised date.
  • Applicants can make one application for up to six course preferences.
  • Applications for Places Available courses are made direct to the relevant campus and a separate application is required for each course an applicant wants to study.

Qualification/Certification

Successful completion of this course provides you with the Certificate III in Community Services Work (Specialising in Mental Health Work - Non-clinical). Students who successfully complete only one or more units of competency within this Qualification will receive a Statement of Attainment.

Fees

Charges vary between courses and subjects and are based on a rate per hour. Concessions may be available to holders of certain government concession cards, and in some circumstances fees may be paid by instalment. A brochure detailing the refund of fees policy is available at each campus. The standard TAFE SA fee for State Government-subsidised courses undertaken by students enrolled in two consecutive semesters is capped at $2050 in 2009. This fee cap does not apply to all courses.

Students are generally expected to purchase their own textbooks, personal equipment, uniforms and stationery.
