Course Notes
Applies to all Student Groups
- The racing industry requires that the maximum weight for riders is 80 kilograms for trackriding. Students who do not meet this requirement will be unable to meet the requirements of the course.
Expected Employment Outcome Example
This qualification covers the role of self-employed or employed persons who work as trackriders, independently with limited supervision in a defined range of varied contexts that may be complex and non-routine.
Note: Completion of a TAFE SA course does not guarantee an employment outcome. Formal requirements other than educational qualifications (eg licensing, professional registration), may apply to some occupations.

Certificate III in Racing (Trackrider)
Follow OHS procedures and observe environmental work practices; apply first aid; comply with the rules of racing and related protocols; achieve requirements for industry induction; manage personal health and fitness; communicate in the workplace; handle horses; assist with transportation of horses; perform basic riding tasks; develop riding skills for flatwork; perform stable duties; attend horses at trackwork; identify factors that affect racehorse performance; develop basic trackwork riding skills; exercise horses in pacework; ride horses at trackwork.

- Applications for the 2012 Intake must be made through the centralised TAFE Admissions system via SATAC (South Australian
Tertiary Admissions Centre) by the advertised date.
- Applicants can make one application for up to six course preferences.

Fees
Charges vary between courses and subjects and are based on a rate per hour. Concessions may be available to holders of certain government concession cards, and in some circumstances fees may be paid by instalment. A brochure detailing the refund of fees policy is available at each campus.
The standard TAFE SA fee for State Government-subsidised courses undertaken by students enrolled in two consecutive semesters is capped at $2,210 in 2011. This fee cap does not apply to all courses.
Students are generally expected to purchase their own textbooks, personal equipment, uniforms and stationery.
