@ Students will need a suitable farming industry workplace to undertake the practical on-job component and the assessment for their workplace competence.

Expected Employment Outcome Example

This course is designed by the agriculture sector to develop skills for employment as a farmhand including workplace health and safety, farm maintenance, chemical application, animal husbandry and machinery and equipment operation. Graduates can look forward to working on properties or rural enterprises engaged in primary production.

Note: Completion of a TAFE SA course does not guarantee an employment outcome. Formal requirements other than educational qualifications (eg licensing, professional registration), may apply to some occupations.

Skills Covered

Certificate II in Agriculture
Undertaking this course will develop skills and knowledge in basic operation and maintenance of farm vehicles and machinery; carrying out basic farming routines including welding; tending to animals and crops; communicating in the workplace; following OH&S procedures; meeting industry requirements; planning daily work routines and preparing, using and maintaining chemical and biological agents to required standards. Streams are available in Pigs, Beef Cattle Production, Shearing and Wool Handling, Sheep and Wool, Dairying, Grain Production.

Note: Students who successfully complete only one or more units of competency within this Qualification will receive a Statement of Attainment.

Award - SATAC application process

  • Applications for the 2012 Intake must be made through the centralised TAFE Admissions system via SATAC (South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre) by the advertised date.
  • Applicants can make one application for up to six course preferences.

Fees

Charges vary between courses and subjects and are based on a rate per hour. Concessions may be available to holders of certain government concession cards, and in some circumstances fees may be paid by instalment. A brochure detailing the refund of fees policy is available at each campus. The standard TAFE SA fee for State Government-subsidised courses undertaken by students enrolled in two consecutive semesters is capped at $2,210 in 2011. This fee cap does not apply to all courses.

Students are generally expected to purchase their own textbooks, personal equipment, uniforms and stationery.
