Certificate III in Irrigation
Undertaking this course will develop skills and knowledge in providing advice on products and services; coordinating work site activities; carrying out OH&S procedures; implementing a maintenance program for irrigation systems; installing and terminating extra low voltage wiring systems; installing irrigation systems; maintaining and monitoring environmental work practices; measuring irrigation delivery system performance; monitoring and operating water treatment processes; operating fertigation equipment; operating pressurised irrigation systems; preparing and applying chemicals; responding to emergencies; sampling soils and analysing results; transporting, handling and storing chemicals and troubleshooting irrigation systems.

Certificate IV in Irrigation
Undertaking this course will develop skills and knowledge in applying irrigation techniques to various horticultural and other crops; implement and monitor OH&S program; developing irrigation and drainage management plans; knowledge of all aspects of irrigated agriculture including land forming; management of salinity; measuring performance of irrigation delivery systems; soil conservation and understanding the properties of soil and other growing media.

Diploma of Irrigation
Undertaking this course will develop skills and knowledge in auditing irrigation systems; controlling inventory; designing drainage systems; designing irrigation system maintenance and monitoring programs; designing irrigation, drainage and water treatment systems; designing water treatment systems; developing an irrigation and drainage management plan; establishing and maintaining an irrigation related environmental protection program; establishing and maintaining the enterprise OH&S program; evaluating e-business opportunities; implementing new technologies for business; managing environmental performance; managing projects; managing quality customer service; managing sales and service delivery; managing staff, merchandise and store presentation; managing water systems; monitoring and managing business operations; plan, implement and review quality assurance program; prepare and monitor budgets and financial reports; preparing estimates, quotes and tenders and providing specialist advice to clients.

  • Diploma of Irrigation [RTE50203]

Note: Students who successfully complete only one or more units of competency within this Qualification will receive a Statement of Attainment.

Application Selection

Award - SATAC application process

  • Applications for the 2012 Intake must be made through the centralised TAFE Admissions system via SATAC (South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre) by the advertised date.
  • Applicants can make one application for up to six course preferences.

Fees

Charges vary between courses and subjects and are based on a rate per hour. Concessions may be available to holders of certain government concession cards, and in some circumstances fees may be paid by instalment. A brochure detailing the refund of fees policy is available at each campus. The standard TAFE SA fee for State Government-subsidised courses undertaken by students enrolled in two consecutive semesters is capped at $2,210 in 2011. This fee cap does not apply to all courses.

Students are generally expected to purchase their own textbooks, personal equipment, uniforms and stationery.
