  • It is advisable students attend an information night at Parafield campus or meet with the Pre-Vocational Coordinator to obtain technical training guidance. Students need to be aware there are Federal Regulations (in particular CASA Part 99) which are now in place for conducting random Drug and Alcohol testing. In addition, a Police check to assess suitability for employment is required before employment. Security and Airworthiness are sensitive issues and therefore the student will be subject to Federal Laws – Please checkout www.CASA.gov.au Pre-reading of Avotek and/or Jeppesen aviation maintenance books will allow an overview appreciation of aviation engineering. Students enrolled in the course will be required to work with imperial units of measurement; practise using fractions prior to start of course is advisable. Expected Employment Outcome Example

Successful completion of this course can aid employment as an aircraft maintenance engineer (AME). The successful student will receive RPL towards the core Cert IV competencies which is approximately the first year of a 4 year AME apprenticeship. The Cert II covers all three AME disciplines Avionics, Mechanical and Structures to enable the completion of CASA's "BA" Examination.

Certificate II in Aeroskills
There are 3 designated A.M.E. streams (Avionics, Mechanical and Structures). The Certificate II provides students with a practical vocational introduction and first step leading to a Licence outcome at Diploma level. The course is focused on aviation engineering standards and practices for all three sectors of aviation maintenance, RPT (regular Public Transport), GA (General Aviation) and Military that maintain airworthiness. The course delivery is through underpinning knowledge and competency based training on aircraft. The core units of the course are required by the aviation engineering industry addressing in all three main areas of maintenance (Line, Heavy and Workshop) enabling the successful student to be productive on completion of the year long “National Qualification” course.

  • Applications for the 2012 Intake must be made through the centralised TAFE Admissions system via SATAC (South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre) by the advertised date.
  • Applicants can make one application for up to six course preferences.

Fees

Charges vary between courses and subjects and are based on a rate per hour. Concessions may be available to holders of certain government concession cards, and in some circumstances fees may be paid by instalment. A brochure detailing the refund of fees policy is available at each campus. The standard TAFE SA fee for State Government-subsidised courses undertaken by students enrolled in two consecutive semesters is capped at $2,210 in 2011. This fee cap does not apply to all courses.

Students are generally expected to purchase their own textbooks, personal equipment, uniforms and stationery.
