  • The Information Technology training package will be updated in 2012. New Awards will be available. Check the TAFE SA website for the latest courses in Information Technology when you apply. Successful applicants are required to commence at Certificate II level unless they demonstrate the core competencies of Certificate II in Information Technology by either successful completion of Certificate II equivalency test, relevant work experience or study. Contact the campus on 8207 8350 for details. This course allows for entry to the UniSA Bachelor of Computing and Information Science (LBCF program).

Expected Employment Outcome Example

This qualification develops basic programming skills in languages used in commercial systems. A person with this qualification could work as a programmer within a team of software developers or implementation project.

Note: Completion of a TAFE SA course does not guarantee an employment outcome. Formal requirements other than educational qualifications (eg licensing, professional registration), may apply to some occupations.

Skills Covered

Certificate IV in Information Technology (Programming)
Teaches a broad range of skills in software development including: Web page development - using XHTML and JavaScript; Desk-top application development - using C#.NET and Java with business and game based projects; Database skills - using SQL, mySQL and Oracle; Systems Analysis and Design - using Object Oriented approaches with UML, Requisite Pro and Rational Rose; Industry preparation – Team software development using Subversion and project management covering PMBOK and using Microsoft Project; and Personal Development – identification of personal skills, industry employment analysis and ethical conduct in the workplace.

Application Selection

Award - SATAC application process

  • Applications for the 2012 Intake must be made through the centralised TAFE Admissions system via SATAC (South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre) by the advertised date.
  • Applicants can make one application for up to six course preferences.

Fees

Charges vary between courses and subjects and are based on a rate per hour. Concessions may be available to holders of certain government concession cards, and in some circumstances fees may be paid by instalment. A brochure detailing the refund of fees policy is available at each campus. The standard TAFE SA fee for State Government-subsidised courses undertaken by students enrolled in two consecutive semesters is capped at $2,210 in 2011. This fee cap does not apply to all courses.

Students are generally expected to purchase their own textbooks, personal equipment, uniforms and stationery.
