Expected Employment Outcome Example

Qualifications in photography prepare students for employment in the photographic and allied industries. Skills covered include all aspects of the photographic process, including digital post processing. They also provide the skills and knowledge base for graduates to set up their own business.

Note: Completion of a TAFE SA course does not guarantee an employment outcome. Formal requirements other than educational qualifications (eg licensing, professional registration), may apply to some occupations.

Skills Covered

Certificate IV in Photoimaging
The digital revolution has created new needs in the photographic industry which will be met by this course. Students will learn the traditional craft of photography using up to date techniques and technology. Subjects covered include DSLR; image Brief 1 & 2; quality and colour management; photographic industry knowledge; photographic lighting; photographic colour theory; photographic history; photoshop 1 & 2; post production management and archiving; and web pages for photographers 1 & 2.

Diploma of Photoimaging
3 core units: Research role and use of the photoimage in visual communication; Research and exploit photoimaging trends; Employ colour management in digital imaging workplace; plus 8 specialist units and 6 elective units.

Advanced Diploma of Photography (Commercial)
Camera operations, studio and location photography, design principles, digital imaging theory and practice, design for the printed page, professional photo practice, applied imaging, photo imaging production, digital video production, multimedia applications for photography, history of photography, business management, and professional folio project.

Note: Students who successfully complete only one or more units of competency within this Qualification will receive a Statement of Attainment.

Application Selection

Award - SATAC application process

  • Applications for the 2012 Intake must be made through the centralised TAFE Admissions system via SATAC (South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre) by the advertised date.
  • Applicants can make one application for up to six course preferences.

Fees

Charges vary between courses and subjects and are based on a rate per hour. Concessions may be available to holders of certain government concession cards, and in some circumstances fees may be paid by instalment. A brochure detailing the refund of fees policy is available at each campus. The standard TAFE SA fee for State Government-subsidised courses undertaken by students enrolled in two consecutive semesters is capped at $2,210 in 2011. This fee cap does not apply to all courses.

Students are generally expected to purchase their own textbooks, personal equipment, uniforms and stationery.
