  • In line with Federal Government Regulations and the Aged Care Act, students are required to complete a NPC/ CHC commonly known as a police check, prior to commencing vocational work placement or gaining employment in the aged care sector.     In addition students are required to read the Immunisation Guidelines for Health Care Workers in South Australia, in particular Section 4.1 and to consider their immunisation status prior to commencing vocational work placement. http://www.health.sa.gov.au/pehs/Immunisation/h

Expected Employment Outcome Example

This course enables graduates to provide support and assistance to older people living in their homes. Job roles include, home care worker, home support worker, personal care worker, community support worker, care worker.

Note: Completion of a TAFE SA course does not guarantee an employment outcome. Formal requirements other than educational qualifications (eg licensing, professional registration), may apply to some occupations.

9 core units including: Work effectively with older people; provide support to people living with dementia; work effectively in the community sector; work effectively with people with a disability; work effectively in home and community care; provide support to meet personal care needs; participate in the implementation of individualised plans; work effectively with carers; follow safety procedures for direct care work; plus 5 electives.

Application Selection

Award - SATAC application process

  • Applications for the 2012 Intake must be made through the centralised TAFE Admissions system via SATAC (South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre) by the advertised date.
  • Applicants can make one application for up to six course preferences.

Fees

Charges vary between courses and subjects and are based on a rate per hour. Concessions may be available to holders of certain government concession cards, and in some circumstances fees may be paid by instalment. A brochure detailing the refund of fees policy is available at each campus. The standard TAFE SA fee for State Government-subsidised courses undertaken by students enrolled in two consecutive semesters is capped at $2,210 in 2011. This fee cap does not apply to all courses.

Students are generally expected to purchase their own textbooks, personal equipment, uniforms and stationery.
