- A satisfactory police check will be required at the expense of the student prior to commencing a vocational work placement or gaining employment. All students are required to complete vocational placements (unless currently employed in an appropriate setting) and be assessed in the workplace. Most organisations also require Child Safe Environments and Senior First Aid Certificates.
Expected Employment Outcome Example
This qualification addresses work in a variety of community services settings; working under professional supervision, assisting with the design, implementation and evaluation of health and leisure activities and programs for clients in one or more sector areas.
Note: Completion of a TAFE SA course does not guarantee an employment outcome. Formal requirements other than educational qualifications (eg licensing, professional registration), may apply to some occupations.
Skills Covered
Certificate IV in Leisure and Health
This course will address the following employability skills – communication, teamwork, problem solving, initiative and enterprise, planning and organising, self management, learning and technology. The course consists of 13 core units: use targeted communication skills to build relationships; work within a relevant legal and ethical framework; facilitate responsible behaviour; facilitate groups for individual outcomes; follow safety procedures for direct care work; maintain an effective work environment; work effectively in the leisure and health industry; undertake leisure and health programming; plan, implement and monitor leisure and health programs; plan leisure and health programs for clients with complex needs; apply knowledge of human behaviour in leisure activity programs; apply sociological concepts to leisure and health; confirm physical health status; plus 5 electives.

Award - SATAC application process
- Applications for the 2012 Intake must be made through the centralised TAFE Admissions system via SATAC (South Australian
Tertiary Admissions Centre) by the advertised date.
- Applicants can make one application for up to six course preferences.

Fees
Charges vary between courses and subjects and are based on a rate per hour. Concessions may be available to holders of certain government concession cards, and in some circumstances fees may be paid by instalment. A brochure detailing the refund of fees policy is available at each campus.
The standard TAFE SA fee for State Government-subsidised courses undertaken by students enrolled in two consecutive semesters is capped at $2,210 in 2011. This fee cap does not apply to all courses.
Students are generally expected to purchase their own textbooks, personal equipment, uniforms and stationery.
