Accessing and using the internet; developing basic design concepts; producing pages using a page layout application; producing graphics using a graphics application; inspecting quality against required standards; maintaining a safe work environment; communicating in the workplace; selecting and applying type; plus electives.

Diploma of Printing and Graphic Arts (Digital Production)
Graphic arts design and layout; printing industry structure and methods; digitising images for reproduction; text and graphics creation and manipulation; typography; web page construction, preparation and production of digitally printed products, including variable data and personalised print; colour management; re-purposing of print files for other media.

Minimum Entry Requirements

Award - SATAC application process

Any one of:
  • Satisfactory completion of SACE Stage 2 (or equivalent)
  • Any Certificate III
  • Satisfactory achievement in the TAFE SA Assessment of Basic Skills (TABS)

Expected Employment Outcome Example

Graduates of this course will have acquired the skills and knowledge to work in a diverse range of pre-media environments. Acquired skills include the design and preparation of conventionally printed products; transformation of text and images into finished web pages, other interactive media and the generation of electronic files for digital output. This course aims to develop multi-skilled individuals who will be able to be flexible in their approach to work within the Graphic Arts industry.

Note: Completion of a TAFE SA course does not guarantee an employment outcome. Formal requirements other than educational qualifications (eg licensing, professional registration), may apply to some occupations.

Application Selection

Award - SATAC application process

  • Applications for the 2011 Intake must be made through the centralised TAFE Admissions system via SATAC (South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre) by the advertised date.
  • Applicants can make one application for up to six course preferences.
  • Applications for 'Apply to Campus' courses are made direct to the relevant campus and a separate application is required for each course an applicant wants to study.

Fees

Charges vary between courses and subjects and are based on a rate per hour. Concessions may be available to holders of certain government concession cards, and in some circumstances fees may be paid by instalment. A brochure detailing the refund of fees policy is available at each campus. The standard TAFE SA fee for State Government-subsidised courses undertaken by students enrolled in two consecutive semesters is capped at $2140 in 2010. This fee cap does not apply to all courses.

Students are generally expected to purchase their own textbooks, personal equipment, uniforms and stationery.
