Expected Employment Outcome Example

Technical Production and Design graduates can be employed by theatres, theatre companies or concert staging companies. Most touring companies employ their own sound, lighting and stage technicians who will travel with a given play, dance production or concert.

Note: Completion of a TAFE SA course does not guarantee an employment outcome. Formal requirements other than educational qualifications (eg licensing, professional registration), may apply to some occupations.

Certificate IV in Design
Developing design skills in spatial design and design for wearable objects; developing 2D/ 3D designs in response to a brief; techniques in colour manipulation, digital image manipulation, researching the performing arts context, drawing; introductory techniques in scenic art, vision and lighting, as well as set, props and costume construction; carrying out measurements and calculations, drafting plans making models and working with scale; developing skills in working with others, managing your own work and learning, sourcing and applying entertainment industry knowledge and OH&S; working with colleagues on productions throughout the year as well as developing your own projects and conducting critical discourse.

Advanced Diploma of Design for Live Production, Theatre and Events
Conceiving, developing and realising set, costume and/or props designs for a range of contexts which could include theatre, dance, live events, film, TV and festivals; collaborating with colleagues on a range of projects in a number of roles; establishing design briefs with Directors, Choreographers and other industry professionals; participating in industry secondments and work placements; analysing performance outlines or scripts; making presentations; producing technical drawings; managing and developing budgets; developing skills in leading teams effectively and working successfully with a range of personalities, continuing to develop skills in scenic art, props and costume construction.

Note: Students who successfully complete only one or more units of competency within this Qualification will receive a Statement of Attainment.

Application Selection

Award - SATAC application process

  • Applications for the 2012 Intake must be made through the centralised TAFE Admissions system via SATAC (South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre) by the advertised date.
  • Applicants can make one application for up to six course preferences.

Fees

Charges vary between courses and subjects and are based on a rate per hour. Concessions may be available to holders of certain government concession cards, and in some circumstances fees may be paid by instalment. A brochure detailing the refund of fees policy is available at each campus. The standard TAFE SA fee for State Government-subsidised courses undertaken by students enrolled in two consecutive semesters is capped at $2,210 in 2011. This fee cap does not apply to all courses.

Students are generally expected to purchase their own textbooks, personal equipment, uniforms and stationery.
