Skills Covered
Musical Instrument Making
Learn how to build your own Martin style steel string guitar, classical guitar, electric guitar, violin or cello. This course is suitable for those that are attempting their first instrument or have previous instrument making experience.
Experience has shown that the skills required can be learned by anyone with the necessary patience and determination.
Description
Making and listening to music is a universal activity in most societies. Instrument making however is sometimes seen to be the sole province of the highly skilled craftsperson.
In this course students are taught the range of skills necessary to make the stringed orchestral instruments. Students are also taught the effective and safe handling of tools and equipment used in making wooden musical instruments.
Instrument making provides “hands-on” experience whereby people can realise their creative and artistic talents. The skills acquired will form the basis for the interested person to progress at each stage of the stringed instrument making process.
Students are instructed and assisted through each stage of the guitar/violin/cello crafting process from start to finish. They will learn to make their own templates and moulds following their preferred model or one of the many models available.
