This is one of the industry groups most affected by rapid technological change and software development - providing great career opportunities for computer literate TAFE SA graduates. Growing trends in small businesses and call centre networks offer a variety of innovative career challenges. These careers are closely aligned with newly emerging technologies such as e-commerce. Overall, a wide range of exciting careers exist in business and commerce but there will be more emphasis on enhanced skills particularly computer skills. TAFE SA qualifications in this area can lead to careers as: human resources managers; information and marketing managers; accountants; company secretaries; real estate sales representatives; land agents and property managers; conveyancers and conveyancing clerks; security industry managers and operatives; and office trainees. Included in this grouping is the legal and justice sector. TAFE SA Justice and Policing Studies is the largest provider of legal and justice training in South Australia. Training offered leads to qualifications in Policing, Legal Services, Justice Administration, Security, Investigation, and in Local Government Administration, Planning and Regulatory Services. TAFE SA training develops the increasingly complex skill sets required for careers as: police officers, other security, compliance and investigation occupations, paralegals, and court staff.

Career Group Description
Accountants, Accounting Clerks, Banking and Finance Workers Certificate courses in this sector provide graduates with the skills and knowledge to work in a diverse range of business organisations as an accounts receivable and payable clerk; payroll clerk; bookkeeper; general clerical assistant; or trainee accountant. Skills to be developed include maintaining financial records; processing journal entries; preparing financial reports; processing payroll; communicating in the workplace; using technology in the workplace; and resolving customer complaints. Diploma graduates may find work as assistant accountants; bookkeepers; accounting technicians; office manager/administrators; or senior accounts clerks, in a broad range of modern business practices. Graduates of the Advanced Diploma can find work as accountants, auditors and Tax Agents. This qualification meets the educational requirements for membership to the National Institute of Accountants. Courses in banking and finance give students the skills and knowledge to work in a variety of financial institutions and positions.
Florists Certificate courses in floristry provide graduates with the skills and knowledge to pursue a career in the floristry or retail industry. These courses are for those individuals who do not wish to undertake an apprenticeship but still want accreditation as a florist. The courses cover the theory and practical elements required to successfully work in the floristry industry.
Justice, Policing, Legal, Local Government and Government Workers These courses cover aspects of justice, policing, compliance, investigation, and local government and provide skills for recruitment into SA Police, working in courts or justice administration, working as a paralegal and working for local government and government departments.
Management and Administrative Workers Management and administrative workers can gain skills and knowledge that will enhance their employment prospects in the field of administrative support. Certificate level courses are designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills and attributes required for a variety of career paths in clerical and administrative occupations including office/accounts clerk; receptionist; customer service officer; administrative officer; office assistant; or information officer. Diploma and Advanced Diploma graduates can gain work as administration officers; officer administrators; executive personal assistants; executive officers; business managers; and general office managers.
Procurement Officers These courses will prepare graduates to work in procurement sectors of industry. The procurement courses are suitable for people in junior managerial or managerial roles in industry or commerce, in supply, procurement, purchasing, contract management or materials management.
Property Cleaners The certificate in this area gives students the necessary skills to join the cleaning industry as multi skilled employees. The course covers essential skills such as occupational health and safety issues, ethical and professional standards and specialist cleaning techniques.
Real Estate Workers Qualifications and training is available for those seeking work in the Real Estate sector in areas such as Property Management. Qualifications in Real Estate will prepare graduates to work as Real Estate Sales Representatives or Land Agents. Training in conveyancing may lead to work as Conveyancing clerks or Conveyancers in conveyancing organisations including banks, law firms, and settlement agencies.
Retail Supervisors and Assistants Retailing is one of the largest employment sectors in Australia, with many sales opportunities for graduates. Retail in the new millennium is a career rather than just a job due to a wide variety of roles evolving within the industry. These roles can include merchandising, selling, marketing, advertising, buying and administration. Sales, Marketing and Advertising Workers Qualifications are useful for those seeking work as marketing executives; small business owners; sales and advertising officers; and managers. Training includes marketing and consumer behaviour; supervisory and frontline management skills; developing and operating a business plan; selling; advertising; marketing research; promotional plans; and creative concepts. Always in demand, a marketer can take on almost any role increasing the chance of employment. A qualification in marketing can lead to a career in a range of industries, including general business management, finance and advertising to name a few. With a qualification in marketing, the sky is the limit. Security Guarding and Investigation Training in this area can lead to careers within the private security industry as security guards, crowd controllers, private investigators, surveillance operators, loss prevention officers and collection agents. There may be a licensing requirement in addition to a qualification requirement prior to gaining employment.
Small Business Owners Training in this area will assist graduates to run their own small businesses. Courses are designed for current small business owners or managers of a small business and for those looking to open their own small business in the near future.
Spatial Information Services Technicians Spatial information services involve the collection, storage, manipulation, analysis and display of spatial data and information, which can be related to a location on earth. The information can be used for the purpose of planning and implementing the efficient administration and development of natural and built resources. Training in this area provides the necessary skills and knowledge for graduates to work as Surveyors or Geographic Information System (GIS) technicians in a wide variety of areas where spatial data is used in the decision making process including asset management, planning, land development, environmental management, marketing, mining, resource development, primary industry, and local government.
Workplace Trainers Assessment of competency has always been an important function in successful organisations. Assessment provides information on the capability of individuals and organisations to achieve their work and business plans. In an educational context it provides information on the extent to which a learner has achieved the required outcomes of a training program. The certificate encompasses the current national competency standards for workplace assessors and trainers while the diploma is designed to develop the skills for designing, implementing, managing and evaluating assessment and training systems.
