Arts, Design, Fashion and Multimedia

Arts, Design, Fashion and Multimedia International Career Groups

Our lives are constantly enriched by the creative, challenging and stimulating world of performance, whether it be live entertainment, film, television or community arts. Acting and dance graduates work across a wide range of performance roles, media and locations. Both courses are profoundly performance based. The thrust is professional training with widely experienced artists/teachers, and guest choreographers and directors from the highest echelons of the profession. Courses are presented that mirror professional industry practice. Students are empowered and engaged to develop informed professional attitudes and practices. Students are guided and supported to achieve individual goals so that every student has the opportunity to successfully enter the professional performance space. Graduates of these courses will be able to work in the dance and acting fields of performing arts. The Bachelor of Dance Performance has an excellent reputation based on the success of many graduates who are employed by major companies in South Australia, Australia and overseas.

All aspects of our lives are enriched by visual culture, craft and design. Graduates of these courses are equipped to excel at the broad range of activities that embrace an artist’s and designer’s practice. Artists and designers may choose to practice independently, join industry enterprises or participate in public art commissions and community art activities. Opportunities include working in jewellery, sculpture, painting, ceramics, art photography, printmaking, galleries and in education.

This is traditionally an area with good prospects for employment which is currently forecast to continue as a growth sector of the economy. There is a variety of courses designed to prepare students for a career in their chosen field. Completion of certificate, diploma and advanced diploma courses can lead to work in theatre, corporate presentation, festivals, and other live entertainment; film and television production; animation; contemporary music performance and composition; display design and construction for museums; and employment in tourism-linked entertainment such as theme parks, casinos and cruise ships. Graduates from certificate, diploma and advanced diploma courses in technical and design skill areas have opportunities to gain employment in a wide range of occupations including lighting, sound, staging, vision systems technicians and as stage managers; or as costume, set and props makers; and as scenic and costume designers. Students have access to fully equipped, state of the art facilities. Students will be individually counselled in the selection of the most suitable companion subjects from the elective unit bank, based on their occupational goal.
