Primary and Allied Industries International Career Groups


There are a variety of employment prospects available for graduates in these areas including the opportunity to work in veterinary practices, pet shops, boarding kennels, animal welfare organisations, and in the biomedical area. The Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing course is the national qualification for Veterinary Nurses. The Diploma of Animal Technology provides graduates with opportunities to work in biotechnical research and production, teaching facilities, zoos and wildlife parks.

This industry sector provides many diverse and interesting career opportunities for graduates, providing the opportunity to work in various aquaculture industries at both technician and management level. Aquaculture is carried out in the ocean, in tanks housed in sheds using recirculating equipment and in freshwater dams and purpose built ponds. Research is also currently being conducted into possibilities for aquaculture to be undertaken in inland areas affected by salinity. Seafood processing skills are required in a range of industry settings.

Completion of these courses will equip you to work as either a project manager or technician in vocations involving biology, wetland management, air and water quality, Australian flora and fauna, ecology, energy management, waste management, soil science, statistics, environmental issues, environmental auditing and systems and project management.

Qualifications in Horticulture cover the necessary knowledge and skills required for employment in this diverse industry. Sectors include general amenity horticulture, landscaping, wholesale and retail nursery, parks, gardens and turf. Employment opportunities include garden maintenance and landscaping businesses, local government, group training companies, wholesale nurseries, garden centres, sports turf organisations and school grounds.

Qualifications in this area provide diverse career prospects including the opportunity to work in biomedical research and production facilities, medical and veterinary diagnostic laboratories and environmental testing laboratories.
