Education Requirements

To become an owner trainer in SA you will need to complete a skills set from the Racing Industry Training Package. This is the criteria for licensing.

Nature of the Job

A trainer at this level is required to have a sound knowledge of all aspects of the industry and will have acquired competencies that enable performance of all tasks and duties associated with running a racing establishment, including managing training programs, staff and equipment. The trainer is also required to solve unpredictable problems by the analysis and evaluation of information and demonstrate broad knowledge in a variety of contexts. Knowledge of industry rules and legal procedures is essential.

Typical Physical Working Environment

Horse trainers may be required to work long hours. Much of their work is carried out very early in the morning and they may continue to work all day. Horse trainers also work on weekends and public holidays.
